Video Game Careers - The Actual Realm Of The Video Games Tester

Before you start getting inspired about starting a job as a professional video game tester, you have to step out of dream land and into the real world. Most game players want to become game testers because they think that it is a "no work-all play" type of job. They imagine that'll just sit around, play the best & most advanced video games, and then gather in tons of cash every week. Lamentably, that is 100% false. Although video game testing may still be deemed as a dream job, it is nowhere close to the fairy tale story that some individuals think it is.

First & foremost, a video game tester would not get paid to lay down into a lazyboy recliner and play the finest video games for 7-10 hours a day. The authentic job description of a game tester is to evaluate games, not to have tons of pleasure playing them. And so, if you thought you were just going to get paid to play video games, you were regretfully mistaken.

When a developer employs you, he is paying for your ability to test video games. He is NOT spending money on you for the ability to play a video game and say that it is awesome; there actually are many other, much less expensive ways to find out if a game is good or not. Having lots of fun while testing video games is just a benefit of the profession, as would be "munching on food" while carrying out work at a restaurant. This doesn't necessarily signify that the developers don't want you to enjoy the video game; it's just that they have more urgent concerns, such as bringing the game up to code before their deadline.

Once you get right down to it, that's basically the occupation of the video games tester; to help get the video game up to code by the developer's timeline. Due to that fact, the tester needs to go over every nook & cranny of a video game in the expectations of discovering all the bugs & glitches. Apparently, he won't really find them all, but the bugs that he does happen to track down must be accurately reported on.

Any problem that is discovered will be reported with this typical outline; what things happened, how it occurred, where it really happened. The information in these reports will help the computer programmers find the bug and fix it as quickly as possible. The swifter the programmers can fix everything (or nearly everything), the more likely the game developer is to make his/their deadline. This is why accurate & comprehensive bug reports are so imperative to the testing process; because without them, the programmer would not be able to define a bug's origin nor would he be able to correct the problem. And, if the programmers can't discern out the problem, there will be expensive delays, which will ultimately cause deadlines to be off track. The full testing process can be seen as a large chain. If there is a chink in the chain, the entire chain can fall completely apart.

In conclusion, there is much more to video game testing than most people presume. As a matter of fact, without professional video game testers, there will not be nearly as many great games. Without quality testers, instead of the impressive XBOX 360, PS3, & Wii titles that you have become so fond of, you would be left with bug ridden, anomaly infested, barely pleasing video games. Do you intend to pay for, or play, games like that? Of course you can't! So, in that regard, you owe a great deal of appreciation to video game testers everywhere. For the reason that without them, you wouldn't love video games as much as you do.
